Pls don’t call your clients idiots. It is rude and remember they help support you.
Thanks for the show…I appreciate the time you guys put in to the podcast.

The past two times that I’ve used the Registry cleaner utility in CCleaner I’ve caused problems. The first W7 system I ran it on would no longer detect the network card or system restore points — I fixed this using the Windows Repair AIO tool from Tweaking (h/t). I ran the Registry cleaner on a second W7 computer and, after rebooting, the system would POST but the screen would go blank before the Windows logon screen. I’m still in troubleshooting mode to reverse this latest setback.

Are the benefits of running a Registry cleaner greater than the risk of crippling your system? After my latest experience I no longer think so. On the bright side, the best way to learn how things work is to break them. All of my trials/errors (more errors than trials) have been on personal computers, so I’ve been able to take my time in fixing them.

My advice: Think twice before clicking “Fix All Selected Issues.” Always have a contingency plan to reverse an adverse change.

@Mike and Carey — Thanks for the show! I learn a lot from your anecdotes. I appreciate how you walk through your troubleshooting methodology rather than “magically arriving” at the solution.

CCleaner always prompts to back up the registry before making changes, if you have issues just boot to safe mode and restore the back up file.
