I know what you mean Carey about people trying to take advantage of your services. I had one whose kid messed up two laptops, even broke the screen one one. Their kid is 13 they bought him all the parts to build an I-core 7 gaming system. He tried to build it himself place a stand off in every hole in the motherboard tray, so they brought it to me. Of course he fried the motherboard and the power supply. She ordered a new motherboard and paid me the labor, I got it all up and running and a week later, the kid tried to plug an keyboard into the USB port or so he says and shorted out the motherboard. So the motherboard bought another motherboard and paid me more labor to put this motherboard in got it all up and running and told her, This was it, she needed to teach her kid to be more responsible with his stuff and if he broke it again, she would have to take it somewhere else. She was out over $400 just in motherboard prices along not counting the power supply and the $200.00 she paid in labor to me.

As long as they’re paying fully for the work done, RW’s customer seems a good customer to me with all the work they’re generating, at least from a business point of view 🙂

  6. RW says:

The issue with this customer is the fact is the parents do not teach their son that he needs to be more responsible. Yes they have been a good customer,, however since the parents are not responsible enough to keep the kid from messing up their computers, which I have spend countless hours fixing, either he gets the computers infected or breaks a laptop screen, and these people do not have a money. There comes a time where you have to say enough is enough. I have gave this client tips and how to take care of their computer, put free software for anti-virus along with the paid version of malwarebytes . The kid uninstalls the programs. There comes a time when a client becomes a headache and you have to let them go.

Stick to the tech side of the show carey,
Each individual, will or will not keep customers,
Based on their individual experiences with them,
No one really cares about yours,
Stick to the tech , the show is called,
Technology changes so rapidly, there is so much good it has,
Allready done in the world, i am typing this reply on my samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1,
I am in bed with a big hot coffee, my wife just woke me up,
Calm down and STICK TO THE TECK scott mueller allways does,
Good luck and may your god go with you siya

    ‘Stick to the tech side’

Oh dear, have you been listening? The show is about running a computer repair business, including the human side. The tech stuff is the easy part – Mike and Carey say this regularly.

  9. Wayne says:

I do believe that Carey and Mike do stick with tech. They have over 40 combined technical experience. How much do you have? They guys put in a lot of time, and a lot of effort to put on this show, so that others like me who are considering starting their own computer business can get information, to make an informative choice on how to start and make their business grow. The tech stuff is the easy part, dealing with customers is the hardest part. If you don’t believe that try working in the retail business which I have been doing for over 20 years.

They must be something right this show has been around since 2009

Mike and Carey you guys keep on rocking.

  10. Ash says:

I’ve been referred by Carey from his latest “how to build a gaming computer – august 2013” youtube video. I have all the parts but i’m scared to put everything together. I have carpeted floors (uggh so much dust!) Awesome show you got here and didn’t know you were a successful author! I’m like “Wow nice house and appliances” lol have a good one!

  11. Barna says:

I am totally with Carey on this. His reasoning and approach is based on common sense and self-confidence combined with modesty. Thank you for that and for sharing your knowledge with those who listen. Keep up the good work! I will definitely be following your broadcasts and advice for long. May you have a happy new year! 12. Peter says:

Carey’s view is justifiable. I worked in Account Receivable for 6 years and was treated like trash every day. I got to a point where being a “slave” to the customer was not an option for me anymore. I gave respect and if the customer didnt want to be professional/respectful the converstation would end. I started moving customers to interact only through email to avoid the nasty attitudes. Carey takes care of his customers but doesnt deal with the crap we have been trained into taking. Customer is always right is a joke and ive met many customers who were absolutely wrong. If I didnt correct there thinking or POV I would of been fired. Thansk you Carey for bringing your POV to this podcast.
