I agree that if Microsoft Windows were more affordable I would be more likely to buy the licence. Fortunately I have a legit version of XP that came with my desktop and I have a legit version of VISTA that came with my laptop... although I don't use it. I'm currently running Win 7 RC1 on my laptop but I doubt I would be able to afford it and I can't really afford to buy XP and put it on my laptop. It's just rediculous.

Carey:
I have just finished listening to show 17. Just remember, your show is named Tech Vets not Law Vets. So more Tech and less philosophising.
Thanks

You were not paying attention to Carey's analogy. He was not sharing his coke with friends. He was taking the coke that he paid for and instead of leaving it in the can, he poured it in a glass.
It was still his coke. He just moved it to a new location.
This was an analogy to the OEM discussion not the mp3 discussion.

That being said
I was reminded that Carey and I have the same beliefs in LAWS
(not policies, but LAWS)
It can best be summed up by this great quote from Ronald Regan --

“Government exists to protect us from each other.
Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.”

I could NOT agree more
(This concept refers to seatbelt laws mentioned on the show)

Let me play the devil here. With the Coke analogy, sharing your Coke with your friends will empty the glass in a short period of time, but with a digital music file you can share it forever. You will have to continuously buy more Coke. Also there is only one copy of that book you share with your friends. It does not continually multiply like a music file would for example. When you share your music with your friends do they give it back after they have listened to it? I don't think so.
So with all that said I think Microsoft is trying to protect their products by making it inconvenient for the normal Joe customer. They should be cracking down on the mass producing pirates and leave the little guy alone. So what if one wants to install an the same copy of Windows on another machine. If he had to pay for it he wouldn't do that so Microsoft isn't out any money any way you look at it.

...and the conversation ensued on the OEM debate.
Carey I agreed with you on reusing the product key
and answering MS questions properly for reactivation.
But you SOLIDIFIED it with your coke analogy
and how silly MS policies seem under a different light.

Mike played a great Devil's Advocate
as well as explaining how a corporate setting differs
when it comes to following MS policies and why.

At the end of the podcast I grinned and said out loud
"These two are GREAT together!"
