I used it to find out what type of ram to get for a friend's older laptop. It stated that his Everex Stepnote took PC2-5300 ram. I did a bit of additional research and found out that in no way could this laptop run on PC2-5300 ram. It in fact took PC2-4200. I tested out a stick of 5300 and sure enough it was a no go. I called Crucial and they stood firm that 5300 was the only ram this laptop could handle. Crucial.com can be a valuable tool but I'd recommend additional research before you actually place that order. As that old carpenter's adage goes, "measure twice, cut once".
