Mike mentioned that his experience with AVG was that it slowed down his system. I’d advise him that if he tries AVG again disable the email scanner and make sure he doesn’t install the AVG toolbar. I am disappointed that the behavioral feature of AVG isn’t only in the pay version. This would be that big of a deal if it was one-time-buy software but with AVG you have to by a license that expires after one or two years. Furthermore aside of the new adapted behavioral feature AVG pay version isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. That’s just my take on it. I’ve used AVG free way back when I was running Windows 98 and when I went to college I mentioned it to my instructor. Shortly thereafter it was on the PC’s in the college library and computer labs.

You did it again Mike and Carey. What a good show.

If you could mention what the percentage of windows xp and Vista pc’s Carey fixes. I fix pc’s on the side and I’d have to say, in the past year, I only had 2 Vista pc’s that I fixed and about 25 windows xp pc’s.
Also, some of tools on the Ultimate boot cd 4 windows does not work as well when using it on a Vista pc..

I bought Spyware Doctor a year ago on Carey’s recommendations. I’m curious if you still think it works well. Malwarebytes and Superantispyware work so well I’m wondering if it’s worth the paid subscription cost?

I like to use Anvir Task Manager – a free (and portable) version is available (admitedly with some limitations unless you upgrade to the pro version) but it gives detailed information on running processes and services, with the ability to upload suspicious files to virus total, produces a hijackthis log, includes a startup manager and a system tray utility

With the ever increasing size of virus-malware databases is a virtual browser for home use a possibility instead of scanners or a program to detect virus behavior?

HP and Firefox together have developed a virtual browser for corporate use.
Programs like Sandboxie have a lot of conflicts
like Evernote one of Mike’s favorite programs.
